Wuerzburg City Alter Crane New Otsu Japanese Garden
Ōtsu City constructed a 1,100 m² Japanese strolling garden with hills and ponds at the Landesgartenschau Würzburg 1990 garden exhibition in Würzburg, Germany, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 1989 Friendship City Joint Declaration and to further strengthen the friendship between the two cities.
Making use of the natural difference in elevation from north to south, the garden features a two-tiered waterfall with an approximate 4-meter drop in the southeastern section. From there, two streams flow downstream into a pond. The shape of the pond is inspired by Lake Biwa, while the central and rock islands represent Oki Island and Chikubu Island, respectively.
